This page describes how ReferenceBase (referencebase.org) handles information about visitors to the site.

Information collected

ReferenceBase has no visitor accounts beyond those used to comment on talk pages, and no forms other than account registration. The site collects standard web server logs: IP address, browser and device information, pages requested, timestamps, and referring pages. Logs are used to operate and secure the site and to understand traffic, including automated crawler traffic, and are retained for approximately 13 months.

If you contact ReferenceBase by email or register an account, that information is retained as part of the site's records.

Analytics

ReferenceBase uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information including IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, and approximate location, and processes that information on Google's servers. ReferenceBase uses it only in aggregate, to understand site traffic. It is not used for advertising and is not combined with other information about visitors. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's privacy policy. Visitors can opt out using Google's browser add-on.

Cookies

The site's software (MediaWiki) sets a small number of functional cookies required for basic operation, such as session cookies for logged-in users. Google Analytics sets additional cookies as described above. ReferenceBase does not use advertising cookies.

Sharing

ReferenceBase does not sell visitor information. The site's hosting provider processes traffic data incidental to hosting. Information may be disclosed where required by law.

Information published in entries

ReferenceBase publishes reference entries about companies, organizations, and people. Entries are editorial content compiled from published sources under the site's editorial standards. Requests concerning the content of an entry are handled under ReferenceBase:Corrections and contact, not under this policy.
